Better known for creating ambient soundscapes with lush melodies and densely collaged samples, Second Thought - aka Ross Baker - has written eight haunted pop songs on guitar and keyboard. Produced in a lo-fi manner inspired by his obsessive listening to Guided By Voices, John Frusciante and early Beck, The Curse of Kevin Carter finds acoustic and electric guitar, piano, synths, noise and a heavy dose of tape hiss hiding beneath Ross's fragile voice. The abstract lyrics explore loss, from forgotten childhood memories to personal regrets, all filtered through a hazy melancholy surrealism. Second Thought sings The Curse of Kevin Carter is an intriguing side-step from an always unpredictable musician.
